A 58-year-old man has died after being hit by a lorry in Barnstaple.

Police were called to a layby on the approach to Pottington at around 5.40pm yesterday evening (Monday) to reports of a collision on the A361.

It is believed the vehicle, a MAN tipper lorry, was travelling from Braunton towards Barnstaple when it was involved in the collision with the man, who was in the layby area.

The local man was taken to North Devon District Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police confirmed his next of kin have been informed, but formal ID has yet to take place.

An investigation has been launched by officers, who are appealing for witnesses following the fatal collision.
