Long-serving rector is saying farewell

THE Rector of Swimbridge, the Rev Preb Peter Bowers is retiring from the post after 21 years on Sunday.
His last service will be Evensong, following which there will be a presentation to him by Lady Margaret Fortescue.
Mr Bowers and his wife, Jane, are moving to Bridlington, where he hopes to take up fishing.
During his time in North Devon, Mr Bowers has also been in charge of churches at Landkey, West Buckland and Gunn. He has also been padre of the Burma Star Association.

Before 1989 Mr Bowers was a priest at Creswell in the Nottingham coalfields. He worked with people during the miners' strike and helped to provide meals for striking miners every day for a year.
Sunday's service begins at 6.30pm in Swimbridge Parish Church.
