Ice lollies and cold drinks on offer at North Devon District Hospital

Inpatients at North Devon District Hospital will be offered ice lollies and chilled bottles of water this weekend as temperatures continue to soar.

Housekeeping staff from Sodexo will be offering out extra-cold water twice a day and lollies once a day on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday in response to the heatwave reaching level three.

The initiative is part of the North Devon Trust’s Heatwave Plan, which has authorised a budget to allow each community hospital to take its own action, but due to logistical problems the delivery cannot be Trust-wide.

The move also follows NHS advice on coping with the sun, which focuses on cooling yourself down with cold food and drinks and staying out of the sun between 11am-3pm.
