M5 traffic updates as the northbound carriageway is closed in Devon between Junction 27 Tiverton and Junction 26 Wellington following a lorry fire.

The northbound carriageway of the M5 in Devon has been closed this afternoon following a lorry fire.

The closure affects the stretch of motorway between Junction 27 for Tiverton and Junction 26 for Wellington. Crews from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are currently on route to the scene.

A carriageway closure means that all lanes heading in the northbound direction are completely blocked to traffic while emergency services attend the incident.

Motorists approaching the area are currently facing delays of approximately 20 minutes. Traffic monitoring services show that congestion has now built back for around two miles on the approach to the closure.

Drivers are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys or to find alternative routes while the road remains closed.

Further updates will be posted here as the situation develops.
