The lives of remarkable local women from across history to the present will be celebrated with a special International Women’s Day in Barnstaple this March.
Breaking Boundaries: An International Women’s Day Exhibition will be hosted at the Guildhall by Barnstaple Town Council on Saturday, March 7 from 11am to 3pm, with free entry.
The annual exhibition will explore the lives of local women from across history to today, including prisoners, business leaders, charity workers and community change makers. The display aims to highlight the diverse experiences and lasting impact of local women across history.

The on the day itself, Sunday, March 8, Soroptimists International Barnstaple and District will be continuing their annual tradition of giving away 100 white roses outside the gates of the Parish Church in the High Street between 10.30am and 11am.
The exhibition has become a regular event in the town and the Mayor of Barnstaple, Councillor Janet Coates, said: “International Women’s Day is a chance to recognise the extraordinary contribution women have made to our town.
“The exhibition honours those achievements and inspires future generations.”

Lucy Scarrott, heritage and cultural manager, added: “Sharing these stories helps us see our local history in a richer and more inclusive way.
“This exhibition shines a light on women whose lives shaped our community and have often been forgotten by history.”
The exhibition forms part of a wider programme of International Women’s Day events taking place across the town, led by other local organisations, offering the community a range of opportunities to come together, celebrate and reflect.
