The monthly Repair Café sessions at Barnstaple Library will be returning in the new year, it has been announced.

Run by One Barnstaple and supported by Barnstaple Town Council, Libraries Unlimited and Earth Action North Devon, the sessions will continue on the third Saturday if each month from 10am to 1pm, with the first on Saturday, January 17.

The Repair Café provides a welcoming community space where people can bring items to be fixed rather than thrown away.

Volunteers will be on hand to carry our repairs on small household electricals and mechanical items, clothing, household textiles, soft furnishings, cuddly toys and jewellery, as well as offering PAT testing for electrical items. The aim is to reduce waste and support the repair and reuse approach.

The Repair Café had a successful year for 2025, made possible by a dedicated team of volunteers. Across the year, 11 sessions were held, including a special collaborative event in October to mark International Repair Day, which brought together several local repair cafes.

Repairs are carried out free, but donations are welcome to help cover the cost of materials and refreshments.

The Mayor of Barnstaple, Councillor Janet Coates said: “The Repair Café is a wonderful initiative for the community. It brings people together, keeps useful items in circulation and supports Barnstaple’s commitment to a cleaner, greener future.”

Ella McCann, community developer for One Barnstaple, added: “The Repair Café is a simple way for the community to come together, share skills and prevent waste.

“While their items are being repaired, visitors can also make use of everything the library offers. We’re also keen to hear from new volunteers who would like to get involved.”
