BREAKING: Major emergency response at Barnstaple bridge tonight

Emergency services are currently at the scene of an incident at Long Bridge in Barnstaple tonight (Friday, October 17).

Photos and videos shared on social media from around 10pm show a large emergency presence, including police, fire crews and coastguard teams.

A helicopter was seen flying up and down the river near Long Bridge as the emergency response continued.

Pictures circulating online also appear to show emergency service personnel in dry suits standing in the river beside the bridge.

The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed. Devon and Cornwall Police have been contacted for further information.
