The annual Barnstaple Round Table Fireworks return to Barnstaple Rugby Club on Sunday, November 2.
The people of North Devon have been urged to show their support for this year’s Barnstaple Round Table Fireworks in tribute to well-known local fundraiser and display organiser Mike Jewell.
The popular event returns to Barnstaple Rugby Club on Sunday, November 2 at 7pm and the Stroke Association (North Devon branch) is one of the chosen charities alongside Devon Air Ambulance.
Mikey, who is the current Barnstaple Round Table chairman and one of the main firework display organisers, suffered a devastating stroke last month at the age of just 42 that left him in an induced coma at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

The latest report from his wife Ellie is that he is recovering well, but will need a long period of rehabilitation.
Aaron Jackson, acting chairman of Barnstaple Round Table, said: “This year’s event is more important than ever as the current chairman of Barnstaple Round Table, Mikey Jewell was struck with a bleed on the brain after suffering a stroke at home.
“He is currently at Derriford being cared for by the stroke unit and this is why we have decided one of the key charities that we support should be the Stroke Association (North Devon) where they do great work in helping and supporting stroke patients and their families.”

The annual fireworks are billed as the largest public display in North Devon and normally attracts more than 6,000 people. Gates open at 5.30pm for a 7pm start and refreshments will be provided by the rugby club, with The Voice providing a public address system and music.
Aaron added: “It would be very difficult to put on an event of this size without the commitment and support from Barnstaple Round Table members and other neighbouring clubs from Bideford, Ilfracombe and Bideford who come and support us.
“A big thank goes to Barnstaple Rugby Club and the Two Tiger fireworks display company, who always put on a great event. This year we would like to thank Howards Motor Group, who have recently taken over the Kia franchise in Barnstaple which have helped to sponsor this event and we look forward to working with Howards over the coming years.”
You can book early bird discounted tickets for this year’s event by visiting the Barnstaple Round Table Facebook page, or you can pay admission at the gate.
