The Jhoots Pharmacy next to Caen Medical Centre in Braunton is among those where local people have reported issues.
North Devon MP Ian Roome has written to the CEO of Jhoots Pharmacies following a series of unexpected closures at local pharmacies.
Writing to Manjit Jhooty, Mr Roome has raised serious concerns over repeated closures at local Jhoots Pharmacies, warning that patients are being left without reliable access to essential medication.
Jhoots Pharmacy, a national chain based in the West Midlands, with branches across the UK, operates several pharmacies in North Devon across Barnstaple, Braunton, Ilfracombe and Combe Martin.
Ian Roome, said: “In recent weeks I've been contacted by a number of concerned constituents who've either experienced unexpected closures, or found their usual medications unavailable, at their local branch of Jhoots pharmacy.
“Customers will be frustrated not to be able to collect routine prescriptions, and if medications are not delivered, frontline staff will be frustrated not to be able to help.
“I've asked to meet with Jhoots senior management urgently, to get some reassurance that these supply chain and staffing issues will be worked out. This is an essential service.
“Across many coastal areas like North Devon, pharmacy cover is limited, and transport makes accessing an alternative difficult for many.”
A report into pressures on community pharmacies by Community Pharmacy England, published in August, suggests that 32% of pharmacies expect to reduce opening hours and 59% expect staff cuts in the next year.
Jhoots acquired 36 branches of Lloyds Pharmacy in November 2023, in a deal reportedly supported by £17.4million in funding from HSBC UK.
