Castle Mound in Barnstaple will be illuminated this Friday (March 15) with an outdoor light show to mark the 25th anniversary of North Devon Arts.

Projecting Barnstaple will see Original artwork by North Devon Arts members beamed onto the historic ancient monument outside Barnstaple Library from 7pm to 10pm.

It has been timed to coincide with the first Library Lates event at the library, which will see a variety of live music, activities, a bar and food aimed for the over 18s.

Stella Levy, chair of North Devon Arts, said: “To celebrate the our 25th year, our committee decided to organise a variety of art projects - this current one is Projecting Barnstaple.

“Images from North Devon Arts members will be abstractly projected onto the historic Castle Mound and around the Library Square, creating a free, enticing light show for all to view in this public, outdoor location.

“North Devon Arts is working closely with Barnstaple Library and local company, Black Beam Cinematic, to bring this projection project to the town. Our appreciation also goes to the Barnstaple Safer Streets Scheme for their support in putting on this event.”

Project co-ordinator, Howard Porter added: “We came up with the idea of the Projecting Barnstaple project to highlight our members work to a wider audience in a central public place that anyone can come along to.

“We hope the project will help to bring people into the centre of Barnstaple and visit a unique and free outdoor event.

“This will be the first time Barnstaple’s Castle Mound has been used in this way and I’m sure that, when people  come along, they will enjoy seeing it as ‘a piece of art in its own right.”
