Children’s Hospice South West has announced the launch of RUN Barnstaple, consisting of a Marathon, Half Marathon and new 10k and children’s ‘Final Mile’ run taking place on Sunday, September 29, 2024.

RUN Barnstaple offers a flat and fast course, making it the ideal setting for those aiming to achieve a personal best.

Kate Romo, events fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West, said: “RUN Barnstaple, formerly known as Barnstaple Marathon and Half Marathon, offers a flat and fast course, making it the ideal setting for those aiming to achieve a personal best.

“This will be our second year running the event having taken it over from North Devon Road Runners last year. This year we have a new 10k and children’s run and so this called for a name change. We feel that RUN Barnstaple really captures the entire event.

“Whether you’re a seasoned runner or looking to take on your first running challenge, go the distance for your children’s hospice and together let’s raise vital funds and awareness for children and young people living with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

“As a children’s charity we really wanted to incorporate a run that children could do and so this year we are also calling on all young champions to join the RUN Barnstaple Final Mile! For this, children can walk or run 12 miles before September 29 and then on the day of the event the children complete their final mile alongside the final miles of the RUN Barnstaple Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K races.”

Children’s Hospice South West was first registered with the charity commission in 1991 and celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2021.

It is dedicated to making the most of short and precious lives, providing the best possible hospice care for children living with life-limiting conditions and their families.

There are three hospices in the South West: Little Bridge House in Barnstaple (opened 1995), Charlton Farm in Bristol (opened 2007) and Little Harbour in St Austell (opened 2011).

CHSW is the only children’s hospice in the South West. It costs around £11 million to run the three hospice sites each year and the charity relies almost entirely on voluntary contributions.
