Keeping our customers safe in their homes is of paramount importance to us here at North Devon Homes.
Did you know that around half of all domestic fires in the UK are caused by electricity? We all have electrical appliances in our homes and it’s important to check that they are safe and in working order.
That’s why we are running a free Electrical Safety Fayre in a series of pop up events across North Devon.
The events started in January and are running through until the 19th February, please see the dates below.
We are inviting all North Devon Homes’ customers to come along to one of the events listed below and bring along their portable electrical items for testing.
If the item is found to be unsafe, it will be replaced, like for like.
Wednesday, February 7, at Lynton Town Hall from 10.30am to 12pm.
Tuesday, February 13, at Ilfracombe Fire Station from 10am to 11.30am and Slade Vision Centre from 2pm to 3.30pm, including half term activities for children.
Wednesday, February 14, at Sticklepath Children’s Centre from 10.30am to 12pm and Forches Children’s Centre from 2pm to 3.30pm including half term activities for children.
Monday, February 19, at Wrafton British Legion from 10am to 11.30am
and The Vivian Moon Centre, Braunton from 1pm to 2.30pm.
These events started in January and we have had a great turn out of customers coming along to have their electrical items checked.
They have also had the chance to meet the team, chat with our partners at Devon and Somerset Fire and Resue Service (DSFRS) and be entered into a free draw to win one of many home appliances.
The events also include free hot drinks and refreshments along with a free quiz, bingo and fun activities. Our events over half term will also include fun activities for the children attending. They are really a lot of fun as well as being educational.
All of this is possible thanks to a successful funding bid we made with DSFRS to Electrical Safety First (ESF). They granted us £5,000 to help tackle and share information on electrical safety.
DSFRS attends at least one electrical fire every two days, which is a worrying statistic. These can be avoided by making simple changes in the household.
Therefore, we encourage our customers to come along to one of these free events to find out more about making their homes safe and preventing electrical fires.
