The AONB North Devon Marathon - one of the UK’s toughest marathons - will be returning to Woolacombe this summer to put local runners through their paces and raise vital funds to help support patients and families at North Devon Hospice.

Marking its 15th year, this iconic marathon takes place on Sunday, June 30 and boasts a stunning route that stretches across the South West Coast Path and the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (where the race gets its name).

Those taking part will be starting off from Woolacombe and covering a 10k (6.2 miles), half marathon (13.1 miles), or full marathon distance (26.2 miles) of gorgeous coastline before celebrating crossing the long-awaited finish line with a delicious cream tea.

“The North Devon Marathon is such a brilliant event to take part in and welcomes runners of all abilities,” said Lisa Mackenzie, events manager at North Devon Hospice.

“Whether you’re new to running or are an experienced competitor, the beautiful views and fresh sea air are sure to give you a welcome boost and make this a race day to remember!

“But what will make this event even more meaningful for those taking part is knowing that with every stride you take, you’ll be helping North Devon Hospice to scoop up people in your community and give them vital care and support at a time when it really does mean the most.”

North Devon Hospice provides support for local people who are affected by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.

As well as offering care at home, patients can also be admitted to their Bedded Unit when symptoms become more severe, for help with pain management and to make them feel as comfortable as possible when they need it most.

Lisa added: “With 2024 marking the hospice’s 40th anniversary, there’s never been a better time for local runners to step up and show their support.

“As always, a huge thank you to every single person taking on this incredible challenge and putting themselves through it to make a difference to so many. Special thanks also to our headline sponsor, Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks, for making events like this wonderful marathon possible.”

The AONB North Devon Marathon, Half Marathon and 10k take place on June 30 and entries are now open.
