The ‘giant Ocean’ play tower with log flume and fireman’s pole, that stands 10 metre high, is coming to Bideford’s Victoria Park after being given planning permission.
Bideford’s Victoria Park play area renovation has taken a big step forward as councillors unanimously voted to approve the plans.
At a meeting of the Torridge District Council planning committee held on Monday (November 13) councillors signed off the showpiece 'Ocean Giant XL' tower play feature that stands at nearly 10 metres high.
The tower will form the park's centrepiece with its unique design providing an access gateway to a whole array of exciting features.
When complete the tower will be equipped with two slides, a fireman's pole, climbing walls, ladders and other engaging tactile equipment, providing a fun and exciting experience for all park-goers.
Pending contractor confirmation the build is scheduled to begin early next year and weather permitting, should be completed over a six to eight week period, with a reopening expected in the spring or early summer.
The play area will be closed during the construction phase but has been timed to coincide with a lower level of usage during the quieter winter months to minimise disruption. The closure will also see the removal of the old structures to make way for the new park facilities.
The play area's full approval stands as a testament to the unwavering determination and hard work of council officers and resident volunteer organisations who have championed the project and sought out elements of the funding.
The financing for the build has come from a variety of sources including Capital funds from Torridge council, a grant from the Bieford Bridge Trust, private fundraising and a £150,000 grant from the Government's Rural Prosperity Fund.
Torridge District Councillor Lyndon Piper, lead member for leisure, said: “It's fantastic news the planning committee has unanimously supported the construction of this exciting new play area which includes a feature tower that will make the park a grand destination for families from far and wide.
“With the hard work being done throughout the winter months, it will be a brilliant to see the park open for next year's spring and summer seasons - Something for all of us to look forward to!”
