Foraging gathering to take place at Yeo Valley Woodland

Nature enthusiasts and food lovers alike are invited to a unique gathering at Yeo Valley Woodland, in Barnstaple on Sunday, 8 October, from 10am to 3pm.

Food from the Forest offers a guided introduction to foraging 'food for free' amidst the stunning trees and bushes of the community woodland.

Yeo Valley Woodland is a treasure trove of natural delights; sloes, apples, blackberries, haws, hazelnuts, and more. Participants will have the chance to connect with nature by harvesting them directly from the woodland, all while soaking in the beauty of the surroundings.

One of the highlights of the event is the apple pressing activity, where attendees can lend a hand in crafting their own fresh, organic apple juice. To reduce environmental impact, attendees are encouraged to bring a clean plastic bottle to take home their freshly pressed juice.

Lead member for Climate and Biodiversity, councillor Ricky Knight, says: "This event is not just about collecting nature's bounty; it's also an educational experience. Local foragers will be on hand to share their expertise, teaching attendees what wonderful creations can be crafted from the woodland's natural harvest.

"There's no need to book, just come along, bring gloves and be ready to immerse yourself in the natural splendour of Yeo Valley Community Woodland!"

There is no parking at the woodland, but visitors coming by car are advised to park carefully in Derby Road and use the entrance beyond the Kingdom Hall. In line with a commitment to sustainability, attendees are encouraged to walk or cycle whenever possible and enter via Silverwood Heights.
