Get out your skateboards and rollers - for the fun-packed day of thrills and entertainment lined up for the Skate-a-thon and Community Fun Day on Saturday, September 23.

Enjoy a host of skating activities and raise funds for the Mayor’s Charities: North Devon Hospice, The Veterans Charity and Barnstaple-in-Bloom, plus the organising charity Skate Molton.

The plan is to have a skate-a-thon from Bideford to Barnstaple along the Tarka Trail, with various lengths of journey available depending upon your skating prowess! Then all the participants will meet up with those attending the Fun Day in Rock Park where there will be further skating opportunities as well as a wide array of attractions for all ages; from face painting and an inflatable bouncy castle to a local artist doing graffiti crafts. Plus food, refreshments and live music entertainment.

Skate-a-thon details: Skateboards/ Roller-skates/ scooters… Advanced skaters: Meet at Bideford Skate Park at 9:15 setting off at 9:45 —- Arrive at John’s of Instow at 11:10 am leaving there at 11:40 —- Arrive at Fremington Quay at 1:00 leaving at 1:30 —- Arrive at The Station Masters Café in Barnstaple at 2:30 leaving at 2:55 — Arrive at Rock Park by 3:30 for food & fun!! (10.5 Miles)

Intermediates: Meet at The Station Masters Café, Barnstaple at 11:40 setting off by 12:00 —- Arrive at Fremington Quay at 1:00 leaving at 1:30 —- Arrive at The Station masters Café at 2:30 leaving at 2:55 —- Arrive at Rock Park by 3:30 for food & fun!! (6.2 miles)

Beginners: Meet at the Station Masters Café at 2:30 leaving at 2:55 —- Arrive at Rock Park 3:30 for food & fun!!! (0.8 miles)… with bonus points for the best dressed skater!

You MUST have signed up to the skate-a-thon via Skate Molton. Please be advised to join at the stop where you feel most confident skating from. This is for a range of skaters with some experience, from beginners to advanced. For those who have never skated before, you are most welcome to join the ‘have a go skate session’ led by the Skate Molton crew. And for everyone, don’t forget to bring your favourite skate gear and protective equipment! There will also be a ‘mini skate’ competition towards the end of the day!

From 12pm until 5pm, around the Rock Park Skate Bowl there will be plenty to do, with lots of activities and entertainment, and everyone and their families and friends are invited, whether you are joining in the skating or not.
