Staff from the cardiology team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (RD&E) are planning a 42-mile inter-hospital trek across Devon to raise money for a new Cardiology Day Case Unit.

They hope the walk on Saturday, September 2 will raise £5,000 to help buy resources for the new centre, which treats patients from across Mid, East and North Devon for a wide range of cardiac treatments and investigations such as angiography, pacemakers and ablations.

The team will set off from North Devon District Hospital and pass through Barnstaple, Chittlehampton, Chittlehamholt, Chumleigh, Chawleigh, Morchard Bishop, Newbulidings, Crediton, Newton St Cyres and Cowley on route to the RD&E.

Sarah Dale, Clinical Matron for Cardiology at the RD&E, said the team will have a model heart that they will be passing on along the walk.

She said: “We have been asking for feedback from our patients to find out what would enhance the patient experience.

“We recognise that this can be a stressful time for our patients and with the money we’re able to raise, our aim is to help make this process as comfortable as possible for them.”

The walk is one of number of fundraising initiatives planned by the team. To find out more or to make a donation, visit https://rdecharity.enthuse.com/pf/achanda-neale
