Barnstaple in Bloom [BiB], the community charity group who do so much locally to keep the town looking attractive, are to run a new event.

The first ‘Horticultural and Floral Art Show’ will take place at St. John’s Garden Centre in Rose lane on Sunday, September 10.

It’s a joint initiative with Barnstaple Town Council and the aim is for it to become a regular event. The Show wants to highlight local green-fingered talent as well as celebrating craft and baking skills.

Categories include a number of arts and crafts and baking events for young people to enter, with age ranges varying from ‘seven years and under’ to ‘13 to 16’.

The entry fees are very low, and encourage everyone to enter and have a go. Frances Bell of BiB said: "This is very much a community event for local people to get involved. We used to have a few shows like this in North Devon but the Covid lockdown saw the remaining ones fall by the wayside. We decided to try and get something new off the ground and I hope anyone who enjoys making, baking or growing will join in.

"Everything is aimed at sustainability, and some of the categories specifically encourage the use of natural products and recycled goods. I’m sure adults and children alike will have fun taking part. A big thanks goes out to the judges who have agreed to take part and the local town council for helping to set this up."

Entries are open now, and close on August 20. Full details of how to enter are available via www.barnstapleinbloom.co.uk.
