Several witnesses called police to report incident.

A 30-year-old local man has died after falling from the Torridge Bridge in Bideford last night (Friday).

Police said several people witnessed the fall at around 8.40pm.

A spokesperson said: “CPR was conducted extensively but the man later died in hospital.

“His family has been informed although we are still awaiting a formal identification.

“It is unclear whether the fall was accidental, although we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

“We would be interested to speak to anyone who may have seen this man walking along the A39 prior to the incident.”

The A39 and Barnstaple Street were both closed for some time following the incident but have since reopened to traffic.

Any witnesses are asked to call police on 101 quoting log number 639 of January 23.
