Live: Bridges closed and trains cancelled as Storm Austen hits North Devon

Travel disruption as Storm Austen begins to make their presence known across the region
Storm Austen is beginning to make their presence known across North Devon and Torridge as heavy rain and winds gusting above 60mph sweep the region.
A Met Office amber warning for strong winds and heavy rain remains in force until 10am, with a yellow warning in force until 5pm.
Average wind speeds are currently just under 40mph but may be much higher in exposed coastal areas and gusts of 60 to 70mph have been predicted.
A statement from the Devon County Council Network Operations Control Centre said: “Our control centre has now dealt with around 80 calls, mainly reporting fallen trees and branches, alongside some flooding and standing water.
“Gusts exceeding 65mph have been recorded in North and North West Devon. Although there are signs of winds easing slightly, road users should continue to exercise particular caution on minor roads and in coastal and exposed areas. There may be hazards that have not yet been reported or reached by our crews.
“The A39 Torridge Bridge at Bideford remains closed. We are monitoring conditions closely and will reopen it as soon as it is safe. The Taw Bridge in Barnstaple has remained open throughout the morning and is also being closely monitored.
“Other reported problems include fallen trees partially blocking the A361 near South Molton, flooding on the B3227 at Stibb Cross near Torrington and a large branch partially obstructing a lane on the A388 North Road in Holsworthy.
“Our highways teams are assessing reports and prioritising incidents according to the risk they pose. Some hazards may take longer to reach or clear, and crews must be able to work safely.
“Please check the latest weather and travel information before setting out, drive according to the conditions and follow road closure signs. Never walk, cycle or drive through floodwater, which can hide missing drain covers and other hazards.
“Further heavy rain is forecast for tomorrow, Saturday 24 October, so please continue to keep an eye on the forecast. We will provide further updates as information is confirmed.”
We will keep you up to date this morning with live information on any traffic delays or disruption.
