A truly successful fund raising evening hosted by the Ilfracombe Tandoori Restaurant has added a spicy contribution of almost £900 to the town's Christmas lights appeal. The High Street Traders launched a bid to raise several thousand pounds to replace the town's festive lights before last Christmas, knowing that without help they would struggle to put up High Street decorations in 2008."Following the appeal, Zaman Miah, owner of the Ilfracombe Tandoori said he would do a fund-raiser for us and we would split the difference on whatever they took," explained Traders chairman Paul Carpenter.More than 70 people attended and together with a raffle on the night, £870 was raised for the lighting of the lights appeal."We were very pleased with the support we had and would like to thank the traders and everyone who contributed to a very successful night," added Zaman.More events are planned throughout the rest of this year, including a summer barbecue. The appeal is ongoing and anyone who would like to make a donation can call in at Hairport, Pedlar's or Thomas Westcott Accountants in the High Street.n THE proceeds are presented to Traders chairman Paul Carpenter by Ilfracombe Tandoori owner Zaman Miah. The raffle raised the total to £870.
