THE lifeboats of both Ilfracombe and Appledore pulled off a joint rescue operation on Saturday as they went to the aid of a disabled fishing trawler.

The Appledore All-Weather Lifeboat George Gibson was called out just after 2pm to tow the 60-foot Bideford trawler Pacemaker back to port after her propeller became fouled north of Lundy.

After arriving on scene the Appledore crew called for the Ilfracombe All-weather Lifeboat to assist as it wasn't possible for a single boat to tow the Pacemaker home due to the tidal conditions.

Ilfracombe's The Spirit of Derbyshire met up with them about 13.5 miles northwest of the town and the lifeboats teamed up to bring the fishing vessel safely into Ilfracombe Harbour.
