SIR - As honorary appeals officer for the Ilfracombe branch of the Royal British Legion, I have the pleasure of declaring the total raised at last year's Poppy Appeal was £8,118.37.This would not have been possible without the help of Goodenough's Plants, who allowed the distribution of trays and wreaths by the Legion from their shop. I thank both Tesco and the Co-op for allowing members of the Legion to collect donations from November 6-10.I thank all the businesses and schools which willingly helped with the collection and donations from the churches. It was a pleasure to see the Army and Sea Cadets giving up their Saturday to raise funds in Ilfracombe.Well done and thank you to all members and volunteers willing to stand outside with collecting trays. This branch covers not only Ilfracombe, but also Berrynarbor, West Down, Lincombe, Lee and Mortehoe. I thank the public for making this record sum possible.Last, but not least, I must thank the tram who helped distribute and collect the collection tins and count the contents. Without their help and encouragement, my work would not be possible.D J Williams, Ilfracombe.
