The family of the man allegedly stabbed to death in Barnstaple Tesco Extra car park have paid tribute to him.

Lee Turner, who had a young son, was confirmed dead at North Devon District Hospital following the incident at around 6.20pm on Friday, August 3.

A statement released from the Hamilton and Turner families said: “It is with a heavy, solemn and collective heart that we acknowledge and announce the death of Lee Richard Turner.

“Lee was a grandson, son, father, brother, friend and known by many. We, as his family, are all heartbroken and struggling to comprehend his untimely death.

“We take enormous comfort in the many positive stories we’ve received from his friends in Barnstaple, and the many people whose lives he has touched. He will be desperately missed.”

The family said Lee’s funeral would be held in Bristol in due course and they have launched a crowdfunding appeal to give him ‘a fitting and poignant send-off’.

Kevin Gale, 50, also known as Kevin Maloney, from Barnstaple, was charged with Lee’s murder and appeared before Exeter Magistrate’s Court on August 6, where he was remanded in custody.
