FANS of the great outdoors who want to learn a traditional rural skill should make their way to Yeo Valley next week. The Friends of Yeo Valley Community Woodland are holding a stone-faced hedging volunteer day on Thursday from 10am-3pm.Volunteers should meet at the entrance to Silverwood Heights, Barnstaple; wear old clothing, waterproofs and sturdy footwear and bring a packed lunch.Supported by North Devon Council, this active community group has been running for more than two years and is transforming a piece of council-owned land near Silverwood Heights, Barnstaple, into a thriving community woodland.Councillor Des Brailey, Leader of the Council said: "This is a great project to be part of and you don't have to live in Yeo Valley to get involved. It's a beautiful time of year to visit the woodland and a great opportunity to meet like-minded nature lovers and learn a new skill."Later that day, the group is also holding one of its regular meetings in the Civic Centre. The meeting starts at 6.30pm and anyone interested in joining the group or finding out more about the community woodland is welcome to come along. If you can't make these events, there is something happening every month. For more information on either event please contact Andrew Moulton or John Rowe at North Devon Council on (01271) 388326 or email parks@northdevon.gov.uk.
