An inaugural meeting of the Fullabrook Wind Farm Community Interest Company (CIC), set up to manage a £3.4 million fund for sustainable community schemes in the North Devon area, will take place in Braunton on Thursday, October 9. The meeting is being organised on behalf of Devon Wind Power which is developing the 66-megawatt wind farm at Fullabrook on land between Braunton, Barnstaple and Ilfracombe. All residents living within approximately five kilometres of the proposed wind farm, together with around 150 local community groups, parish councils, sports organisations, local schools, churches and other community organisations are being invited by letter to attend the event which will take place at 7pm on Thursday, October 9 at Braunton Village Hall.Devon Wind Power committed to set up the Fullabrook Community Fund in 2004 before its planning application was submitted. The principle that local communities should share in some of the benefits of wind farms is well established in the UK and other European countries and has been encouraged by the Government. However, it was not a factor considered during the planning process, either by the Inspector who presided over the public inquiry in 2006 or in the Secretary of State's decision to grant permission for the wind farm in October 2007.
