Tarka Housing's new affordable housing scheme is to provide local people with 24 three, four and five-bedroomed homes at East-the-Water. Westcountry Housing bought the homes for Westward Housing Group, the parent company to both Tarka Housing and Westcountry Housing.The homes are part of Tarka's response to the current housing and economic crisis. The official launch of the scheme takes place tomorrow (Wednesday) at Restarick Close, where Cllr Mrs Margaret Brown, Chairman of Torridge District Council and and a Tarka Housing Board Member will formally open the scheme. The total value of the development was £3.6m with The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) providing grant funding of £1.7 million, to assist Westcountry Housing in purchasing the homes. All the homes on the site are being rented out through the council's housing register. There are 19 three-bed properties, four with four bedrooms and five-bedroomed house.Torridge District Council supported Westcountry Housing's bid for the homes to the HCA and the bid was made through Partnership South West. Managing Director of Tarka Housing Nigel Barnard said: "We are delighted to be able to take on these attractive high quality new homes for the benefit of people in need of housing in our area. It is extremely important to us that we work in partnership to secure good quality homes where people want to live and to help to build strong and sustainable communities.
