Teams can take part in the contest as part of a family fun day happening in Barnstaple on Saturday, June 8.

BARNSTAPLE will be hosting a fun day on Saturday, June 8, with stilt walkers, surf simulators, stalls and an ‘It’s A Knockout’ competition.

Teams can still sign up for the contest which will feature rounds including inflatable jousting and donning sumo suits.

The event on Castle Green, sponsored by Applegate, will be held in aid of Barnstaple charity Amigos which carries out work with young people in Uganda.

For those not competing, DJ James Chapple will be providing musical entertainment and there will be hot snacks from Shintori and the Lush Food Company.

Street entertainers, face painters, stilt walkers, a bouncy castle, Buckin’ Bronco and surf simulator will also add to the day, which runs from 10am until 4pm.

“All money raised will go directly to the flagship project of Amigos, Kira Farm Development Centre,” said Amigos director Phil Pugsley.

“All of the students are desperately needy and come from difficult and painful backgrounds.

“Many have lost parents as a result of HIV/AIDS, rebel conflict or endemic poverty, some of the students have suffered terribly as child soldiers and abductees and some are HIV positive. Kira gives them a hope and a future.”

There’s still time to sign up for the It’s A Knockout competition or help out by volunteering on the day.

Teams of between four and six people can enter by contacting the Amigos office on 01271 377664 or email info@amigos.org.uk.
