THE thrills and spills of aquatic water fowl racing returns to Landkey in the form of Duckfest on Sunday. Now in its second year, the duck race organised by the Ring O' Bells public house and Landkey Football Club will see a full phalanx of fearless plastic fowl lining the banks of the stream at Church Meadow in the village from 1.30pm.There will be 10 heats and a grand final, with prizes of 100, 50 and 25 for the overall winners - so at 1 a duck you'd be quackers not to have a go!Organisers Chris Wingham from the Ring O' Bells and Chris Hiles of Landkey FC are busy grooming, currying and generally preparing their stable of thoroughbred ducks to negotiate the tricky 100-yard course of fast runs, slow glides and treacherous rocks. The infamous "duck prodders" will be back in action, as will spotters who will instantly relay the action back to shore for race commentary over the PA system - and owners are urged to cheer on their contestants. There will be a variety of non-cash prizes for the heat winners, too, generously donated by sponsors whose name will be on each race.A bar, barbecue and various activities will be running throughout the afternoon, with the final race at approximately 4.30pm. Duck tickets can be bought on the day or in advance from the Ring O' Bells.
