MARK Cann, Labour's Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for North Devon has called on the Government to think again over its decision to end 24-hour Search and Rescue helicopter cover from Chivenor.

" I regret that this decision has been made and would urge that the issue of 24-hour cover be reconsidered before the detailed contracts are drawn up."

He continued: " Despite the assurances that cover can be provided from other bases and that the new helicopters are faster, if they are already committed elsewhere then we will have a potentially dangerous delay in response to night time incidents here.
