A UNITED Services College cap and blazer, dating from the time Rudyard Kipling attended the school, has been given to Westward Ho! History Group. It will be among items displayed at the group's 'drop-in' day in February. The history group was contacted by Robin Kelsall of Scotland who had found some of his grandfather's possessions in an attic. As well as the cap and blazer, he found: a 'Christmas Pastimes' programme dated December 19, 1882, with a full list of names of all who took part; the 'School Rules Book'; and an '1888 Prospectus' with a full list of patrons, tutors and pupils. The United Services College occupied the row of houses - now flats - known today as Kipling Terrace, Westward Ho! The Kelsall family lived at Youngaton (Village Inn), Nelson Terrace and Dunluce until 1956 and their sons went to the United Services College. After finding their website, Mr Kelsall emailed Westward Ho! group to see if they would like his discoveries - and they were thrilled to receive them. The drop-in day is at Pathfinders on February 23, 11am until 3pm.
