SIR - I was very concerned to read Mr Griffin's letter advocating turning off street lights from midnight and would challenge his assertion that "nobody else is walking around at that time of day." What about people coming off late shift, or going on early shift, or leaving night clubs, to name just a few? It could easily lead to increased vandalism and I know many people feel safer at home if they can look out on a street light. By all means dim them after midnight but please, for all our safety, keep them on, particularly with winter coming on with its long hours of darkness.
