Runners of all ages and abilities are being invited to take part in a colourful family fun run with a difference in Barnstaple this September. The 3km Colour Me Happy run returns to Rock Park on Sunday, September 4 and people are being asked to sign up and support the North Devon Hospice fundraiser. More than 500 took part in last years event, which sees runners are doused with an array of brightly coloured powder. Claire Sherwood and her partner Steve Paine from Barnstaple took part in last years run and will be signing up again this year. It was honestly one of the most fun experiences Ive had, said Claire. Theres something so child-like in getting covered in colour from head to toe; weve never laughed so much! Well certainly be doing it again this September and Id encourage everyone else join in too. Steve said it was great to see the community come together and having fun for an amazing cause. Whether you were in a big group or not, everyone just came together and had an amazing time, he said. The fact that all this silliness and fun is helping the hospice makes it a real winner for me. So many people in this area rely on the support of North Devon Hospice, and their care will touch the lives of pretty much every family at some point. But as a community we have to support the hospice if they are to be there for us when we need them. Hospice fundraiser Gerard Fawcitt said the idea for Colour-Me-Happy came from the famous Hindu festival of Holi. It really is one for the whole family to enjoy together, he added. The idea is not to race around the course, but to savour the experience together this is going to be the happiest 3km youll ever walk, dance or run. Places for Colour-Me-Happy are limited and registration is £15 for adults and £8 for 10 to 15-year-olds. Under 10s go free.
