The village has undergone its annual South West in Bloom visit

Residents of Hele have been praised by South West in Bloom for their community effort in producing their floral displays.

Judges were in the village today (Wednesday) to assess the blooms across the neighbourhood. Hele is competing against Berrynarbor, Plympton St Maurice, Bovey Tracey and West Harptree in the Pennant Village category.

Stevie Rogers, lead judge, described the displays as 'very pretty' and commended Hele residents for their hard work.

She said: "Hele could be used as an example across all of the South West on how to work together as a community to keep the local environment healthy despite all the local authority cuts."

The judges assessed the floral displays on environmental sustainability, horticultural excellence and community involvement.

Kathy Jones, a member of the Hele Community Group which helped organise and maintain the floral displays said: "The community has worked very hard to pull together to make Hele more enjoyable for residents and visitors alike."

Hele residents will learn on October 12 how their village has performed in the competition at a presentation in Taunton.
