PICNICKERS have been invited to descend on Rock Park in force this Bank Holiday Monday (May 25) as Barnstaple Lions Club and the Town Council attempt to set a world record for the largest ever picnic.As part of National Family Week, families across the UK are being encouraged to have a picnic on from 1pm and Barnstaple wants a piece of the pie. Having a picnic is the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with your family so make sure you head down to Rock Park to put Barnstaple on the map as one of the biggest and best picnics joining the attempt. National Family Week is a brand new initiative running from May 25-31 that aims to celebrate and promote good family life and help to create a more family-friendly culture in the UK. Hundreds of events and activities will be running across the country during the week to provide fun and exciting ways for families to spend quality time together. The Family Week Picnic rug will be laid down across the length and breadth of the UK, with Barnstaple Lions Club and Barnstaple Town Council being one of the many places and organisations to join forces with National Family Week to ensure the world record is achieved and to help in bringing thousands of families together. Anyone can join in, all you need is a rug or mat, food and drink including a minimum of two courses per person and of course don't forget your family and friends. Plus at Rock Park, there will be many attractions to keep all families entertained with stalls, face painting, street entertainers, music from Peter Kirk, side shows and much more besides. So head down to Rock Park allowing plenty of time to register before 1pm and stand up and be counted towards the record for the World's Largest Picnic.
