Love where you live at first of community litters picks on Wednesday, September 30

The first in a series of community litter picks in Barnstaple takes place next week.

The ‘love where you live’ litter pick in the Gorwell area is on Wednesday, September 30, from 9am to 2pm.

North Devon Council will be leading a group of volunteers from McDonald’s, which is sponsoring the event, and North Devon Homes, which owns a large number of properties in Gorwell.

Executive member for environment, Councillor Rodney Cann, said: “This will be the first community litter pick in our ‘Love where you live’ campaign, kindly sponsored by McDonald’s. It costs the council thousands of pounds a year to clear up litter, money that could be better spent on many other services.

“There is no excuse for dropping litter, it is thoughtless and shows no respect for the environment or for other people. We need the support of local residents to help us fight litter and show everyone that you ‘love where you live’.”

Council staff will be based at the portacabin on Beaufort Walk (at the top of Gorwell) on the day, where all volunteers should meet to collect their litter-picking equipment.
