A booklet is being produced to help everyone celebrate North Devon Day.It will offer lots of ideas on how to organise local events large or small for young or old.The aim is to have an event going on in every community across the region to celebrate the uniqueness of North Devon.North Devon Day - being held on Saturday, May 24 - is the idea of Teresa Crossman of www.northdevonflag.com and is being promoted by The Gazette.A fun event is being planned for the new Barnstaple Square and a competition to find North Devon's most popular historical personality will culminate in his or her unveiling at Brian Ford's supermarket. The concept of North Devon Day has stirred up lots of interest since it was first revealed in The Gazette last year.Several events are already being organised in advance of the publication of the booklet by North Devon Hospice, which will benefit from any money raised.Young members of The Edge stage school will be holding a concert in the theatre at Edgehill College. And the Hartland Singers have booked Hartland Methodist Church for a concert. The Silver Spurs Square Dance Club are holding a cream tea and probably a skittles competition at Goodleigh Village Hall.During the afternoon, visitors will be able to see demonstrations of square dancing."This is just the sort of event we have in mind," said Ali Hunt, of North Devon Hospice."It doesn't have to be a grand affair. The aim is simply to explore, enjoy and embrace our heritage and lifestyle while raising funds for North Devon Hospice."If you would like to get involved and help mark North Devon Day - either as an individual or a group - let us know by contacting the News Desk on (01271) 345056 or emailing dave.tanner@archant.co.uk
