SEA Cadets in Ilfracombe will be holding an open day complete with Daleks on Saturday (April 4) to celebrate a permanent home of their own.The building in Ropery Road used by the cadets of TS capstone has been left to them in the will of owner Joy Hayward and on Saturday a plaque will be unveiled to commemorate this. The open day runs from 10.30am until 4pm will be an opportunity to show what the Sea Cadets are all about and encourage both young people and adults to come along, find out more and perhaps get involved. It is a double celebration as the unit is also launching its new five metre RiB boat and weather permitting, there will be opportunities for visitors to enjoy a ride in it.There will also be a craft fayre at the Ropery Road headquarters, together with a Dr Who collection on display, including Daleks!Actor Paul Lavers, who appeared in four 1978 episodes entitled "The Legend of Tara" as well as various television credits including The Onedin Line.Ilfracombe Sea Cadets chairman Greg Schofield said having their own building and a new boat would provide a real boost for the future."I firmly believe that Ilfracombe needs an organisation like the Sea Cadets - given its location next to the sea and it's harbour, we need to be doing as much as we can to promote the use of the sea and related activities," he said.
