Johnnys funeral will be held at 2pm on Sunday (September 23) at the Parish Church of St Mary in Bishops Nympton. The Exmoor born-and-bred personality died, aged 79, on Thursday, September 6 in a digger accident on his land near Knowstone. He leaves behind his wife Julie, sons Stuart and Craig, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family flowers only but donations can be made to North Devon Hospice and Exmoor Search and Rescue at the service or c/o W S Gayton & Son in Bickington. Following his death Johnnys family paid tribute to him and said: A legend has been lost. His agent Hilary Knight added the film maker and photographer was one of the last true characters of rural Britain. She said: He embodied all the attributes that are associated with true countrymen.
