A successful scheme which found job placements for graduates in North Devon is being wound up at the end of the month.The Graduate Skills for Torridge Project began in October, 2007 and has found work experience for 22 graduates, matching their skills to the needs of 21 businesses and three other organisations.Five of the graduates were offered permanent jobs once their placements ended and eight others had their placements extended.Cathy Newman of North Devon + has been responsible for running the scheme. She said: "It is always fantastic to see young businesses expanding, particularly in the current economic climate."The success of the project has shown that there are opportunities for graduates in Torridge. I hope it will encourage more graduates to stay in the area and encourage more businesses to consider taking on graduates for project placements."While the scheme was running, graduates were found placements on a wide range of projects, including E-marketing, public relations and marketing, GIS mapping, technical drawing, computer programming, database creation, website creation, copywriting, translation and sound engineering.
