Tesco has reported a resounding 92 per cent "yes" vote for its planned new store at East-the-Water, Bideford, following public exhibitions. The firm unveiled its plans at exhibitions on Bideford Quay and at the Pollyfield Centre at East-the-Water and reported a continuous flow of visitors throughout the two days.People were invited to record their comments on the plans through response forms or a dedicated website. Tesco reported: "The overall postal response was a resounding 'yes' with more than 92 per cent in support of the proposals. Respondents from East-the-Water alone had a higher 'yes' rate of 93 per cent. The online response figures from East-the-Water proved even more positive, with 100 per cent in favour of the Tesco store."While welcoming the size of the new store, people felt that a larger store would offer them even greater choice and value and a Tesco petrol station was also suggested as a definite need for East-the-Water, said Tesco.A spokesperson said: "The company is delighted with the positive response from the public and regarding the petrol station, it is something that Tesco has considered, but the constraints of the site do not allow for a larger store or a petrol station. However, it's something we will continue to explore.
