Barnstaple’s Homebase store could be turning into The Range, a planning application has revealed.
Earlier this year Homebase announced it was closing 42 of its stores, but Barnstaple was not included in this list.
However an application for North Devon Council is seeking permission to change the use of unit to ‘allow the building to be occupied by The Range’.
Although there is no known date for the store’s opening, the planning statement said: “The demand from The Range for retail representation in Barnstaple is immediate, and subject to the grant of planning permission, it is anticipated that The Range could occupy and trade the unit within six months of permission being granted.”
It would be one of 150 nationwide, selling goods including camping equipment, DIY and lighting, pet products and household goods.
The planning application states a typical The Range store will employ between 80-85 members of staff.
The Gazette has contacted Homebase and The Range for comment.
