Instow kiosk damaged by suspected arson

PART of the Sandhills car park kiosk and cafe building at Instow has been destroyed following a suspected arson attack.

Two fire engines were called out from Bideford just after 8pm on Sunday, arriving to find a large wooden store shed next to the caf well alight and had to work quickly to stop the fire from spreading to the adjacent building.

The shed itself was completely destroyed but thanks to the fire service said thanks to the swift actions from members of the public who reported the fire and the efficiency of fire fighters, it was soon brought under control.

Fire service personnel remained on the scene for more than an hour, turning over and damping down any hotspots within the remains of the store shed.

Bideford Station Commander Dave Slade said at this time the incident is being treated as suspicious and would like to remind people to ensure unattended sheds or outbuildings are kept locked and secure to reduce the risk of arson.
