Emergency services rushed to the aid of a 57-year-old Barnstaple man found on mud flats at Instow on Sunday, but he was pronounced dead at the scene
The body of a man has been recovered from mud flats near Instow.
Police said they were called at around 1.30pm yesterday (Sunday) following reports of a missing person near Bideford.
Searches took place and a 57-year-old man from Barnstaple was found unconscious on the mud flats close to Instow.
Despite the efforts of ambulance service paramedics and police the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Devon Air Ambulance also attended the incident, together with a South Western Ambulance Service rapid response vehicle plus a land ambulance.
The fire service and coastguard also attended.
Police said the man’s next of kin had been informed and police were not treating the death as suspicious.
Police are to prepare a file for the coroner.
