THERE was a good attendance at the first ever meeting of the North Devon Malayalee Association at Swimbridge Village Hall.
The Malayalees trace their origins back to Kerala in Southern India through their common language Malayalam and the new association will act as a support group, bringing together families in the area.
North Devon MP Nick Harvey joined the new NDMA members at the inauguration, as did several guests and a number of local Malayalee families.
Manoj Alex, president of the NDMA, said the association would be carrying out charity work and running cultural programmes, covering events such Diwali, the Hindu "festival of lights."
