JOIN the "quacky races" this Easter Sunday at the great Ring O' Bells charity duck race in Landkey near Barnstaple. No quarter will be asked nor given as ferocious plastic fowl take to the village stream for a series of heats from 2pm.The event is the brain chick of Ring O' Bells pub landlord Chris Wingham and all funds will go to Landkey Football Club.Organisers at Duck Control have already sold more than 800 tickets for the inaugural Landkey duck racing, which will take place in Church Meadow.Race and raffle prizes have been donated by many companies and people, including Coors Brewery, Youing's, Ed's Fruit and Veg, Landkey Post Office and Jay's Taxis.Heats will last two or three minutes, a ticket gets you into the race and there is plenty of space for duck owners, fanciers and handlers to line the banks and cheer their favourite.A bar, barbecue, ice creams, bouncy castle, games and a raffle will all be taking place on the day. Each racer will be numbered, but the thrills, spills and underwater hazards of professional duck racing makes it unpredictable - and exciting."Through a miracle of engineering, all the ducks stay upright and we will have duck spotters along the bank with walkie talkies and sending back the latest positions so we at Duck Control can provide a running commentary," said Chris."Why not join us on Sunday? Racing tickets are available at the pub, through the football club or just turn up on the day - simply follow the duck signs through the village."Call Chris on (01271) 830364 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details or just turn up on the day.
