Following elections at their schools, the council is formed of 13 Ilfracombe Academy and five junior school members.

Ilfracombe town councillor Netti Pearson has been working with the Junior School and Academy to create a youth council for the town, supported by councillors George Squires and Dan Turton, and youth worker Keith Rickwood.

The council will meet on the first and third Monday each month at the Lantern centre from 3.45-5.15pm.

The councillors were visited during November’s Parliament Week by North Devon MP Peter Heaton Jones.

Netti said: “The students had all taken time to think of questions for Peter, some of which were quite challenging, such as ‘If you were Prime Minister what would you do about Brexit’? while others were more surprising, ‘Where do you eat when you are in Parliament’? “Peter responded in an interesting and engaging manner to an attentive audience.”
