The organisers of Ilfracombe’s Christmas decorations have warned the town’s Christmas tree may have to be removed if vandalism continues.

Volunteer group Combe Christmas said the tree had been ‘attacked repeatedly’ since it was put up at the War Memorial two weeks ago.

The latest incident took place last night (Monday), with vandals pulling down the lights and cutting the wires. Wreaths have been pulled down, beer cans have been thrown into the tree, and the fencing around it has been broken apart.

A social media post from Combe Christmas said: “If this continues we have no choice but to remove our beautiful tree as it is becoming dangerous, especially now that the electrics are being vandalised.

“We’re not usually volunteers who would let these desperately sad people ruin our Christmas spirit, but they’re currently making the area unsafe, which we can’t have.”
