ILFRACOMBES Tesco store has opened a summer pop up shop in its car park without planning permission. The outdoor marquee is not breaking any laws and is offering summer essentials such as sun cream, barbecues and beach wear. Mike Kelly, planning manager at North Devon Council, said a planning application had been received from Tesco in June: Responsible businesses would be expected to apply for planning consent prior to opening, although it is not illegal for them to open before permission has been granted, he said. After the public consultation period ends on Friday, he said the application would be considered retrospectively and would be expected to take four to eight weeks. A Tesco spokesperson said the beach shop was proving to be really popular with customers. Were pleased to be offering our customers summer essentials, so that they can pop in a grab some sun cream and wind breakers before heading to the beach, they said.
