Man rescued from remote beach near Lee Abbey at Lynton

Both Ilfracombe lifeboats launched yesterday (Thursday) to help a pensioner who had a panic attack on the beach near Lee Abbey.

The man had pre-existing medical conditions and Lynmouth Coastguard asked the lifeboat to take him by sea rather than tackle the cliff.

The inshore lifeboat collected the casualty from the shore and took him to the all weather lifeboat Barry and Peggy High Foundation.

The man was taken to Ilfracombe and handed into the care of the ambulance service.

Volunteer coxswain Andrew Bengey said: “It was an unusual call with a very satisfying result.”
